Just got into Estes Park Colorado for the Wilderness Education Association National Conference on Outdoor Leadership with a beautiful snow coming down. Looking forward to a good weekend of idea sharing and visiting friends old and new.

Backpacking-Grand Canyon National Park

We are offering two Grand Canyon backpacking trips one beginning on March 28 for 5 nights and again on April 4 for 5 nights. Both trips begin with transportation from Phoenix airport (mid-day arrivals) on Sat., March 27 or April 3, depending on the week, and then a drive up to the park with camping on the South Rim that Saturday night. The next morning offers some canyon rim sightseeing and visitor center stops. After lunch we descend into the canyon eventually making our way to the Colorado River, staying 5 nights out each week.

The first week has a layover day for side hikes, relaxation, etc. Total mileage over 5 hiking days (6 days/5 nights total with a layover day) is 23.4 miles. The second week the total mileage over 6 hiking days (since there isn't a layover day) is 30.2 miles. Some of the days are very short (1.5 miles; 2.2 miles, and 3.5 miles for three of those six hiking days) so it offers plenty of time to relax, explore, etc. On this route you get to see parts of the canyon that less than 1% of 1% of the visitors to the Grand Canyon gets to see. It is far less crowded; we have some stunning views and some awesome campsites. One we stay at twice that has some hidden waterfalls that few people know about.

Both weeks return to the rim on Fri., with overnight accommodations and celebration in Flagstaff. Early morning return to Phoenix airport on Sat. for flights home. The first week is limited to 6. The second week is limited to 8. This limit includes me. Fee or each week is $695 per person (double occupancy) includes all local transportation, all permit fees, camp fees, all food while in camp or backcountry, park entrance fees, lodging in Flagstaff, final celebration dinner, and all group camping equipment.

Fee does not include airfare to Phoenix, personal equipment (backpack, sleeping bag, sleeping bag, trekking poles, etc), any meals outside of camp or backcountry, however the final celebration dinner is included, and any items of personal nature, alcoholic beverages, and souvenirs. Any personal equipment needed is available for rent.
